Mijke de Jong’s latest feature to premiere in cinemas during the festival’s 51st edition, alongside the online programme
International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) announces the world premiere of Mijke de Jong’s Along the Way in cinemas in Rotterdam, Groningen and Amsterdam during the festival’s closing weekend. IFFR opens today, Wednesday 26 January 2022, with the world premiere of Please Baby Please by Amanda Kramer.
The 51st edition programme was moved online in response to lockdown measures introduced in December in the Netherlands. Although the Dutch government announced re-opening of cinemas from Wednesday 26 January, IFFR 2022’s programme will remain exclusively online on IFFR.com from 26 January to 6 February. The screenings of Along the Way in cinemas add an onsite element to IFFR during the festival’s closing weekend.
Festival director Vanja Kaludjercic: “We announced Along the Way as our opening film on 15 December, but had to make the difficult decision to move IFFR 2022 online in response to the uncertainty and concerns regarding Covid-19. It is sadly impossible for us to shift back to a physical event on such short notice. However, now that cinemas are allowed to open again, we are committed to supporting Mijke de Jong’s poignant and timely film by presenting the world premiere on the big screen as part of the IFFR 2022 programme.”
Filmmaker Mijke de Jong will attend the world premiere in Rotterdam. During the closing weekend, the film will screen in cinemas including Cinerama, LantarenVenster and Pathé Schouwburgplein in Rotterdam. The film will also show at Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam and Forum Groningen. IFFR will additionally host a press screening on Friday 4 February, followed by a Q&A with Mijke de Jong and Vanja Kaludjercic in Rotterdam. More information on Rotterdam screening schedules and ticketing will follow shortly onIFFR.com.The film will be brought to Dutch cinemas by distributor September Film later this year. Along the Way is produced by Frank Hoeve and Katja Draaijer for BALDR Film in co-production with Heretic and broadcasters VPRO and HUMAN.
IFFR 2022 opens today, Wednesday 26 January, with the world premiere of Please Baby Please by Amanda Kramer. The film will be accompanied by Lewie and Noah Kloster’s short film Stranger Than Rotterdam with Sara Driver. The Opening Night will be a timed screening, taking place at 20:00 (CET), and followed by a live Q&A with Amanda Kramer and actress Andrea Riseborough.
