International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) is releasing La Flor by Mariano Llinás in cinemas in the Netherlands (from 12 July) and Belgium (as of now). The film has a runtime of nearly 14 hours. La Flor will also be available on Dutch streaming service Picl from 11 July, and on IFFR’s own platform IFFR Unleashed from 11 August.
La Flor is a monumental ode to cinema. Llinás casts the same four actresses in six different stories told in widely divergent styles: from zombie movie to spy drama. The film is the two-time winner of the Hubert Bals Fund Audience Award – for Parte 1 in 2017 and for Parte 2 in 2019.
The L.A. Times called the film “epic”, “dazzling”, and “the definition of a must-see”. Filmmaker Magazine characterised La Flor as “a saintly gift to cinephiles”.
In the Netherlands, the film will screen in LantarenVenster (Rotterdam) and EYE (Amsterdam), among other places. Belgians can see the film in theatres such as Bozar (Brussels), Cinema Galeries (Brussels), Cinéma Vendôme (Brussels), Les Grignoux (both in Liège and Namur) and Plaza Art (Mons).
La Flor received support from IFFR’s Hubert Bals Fund. Llinás has taken ten years to create this film.
