In December 2016, Berlinale’s European Film Market (EFM), International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR, Copenhagen International Documentary Festival (CPH:DOX) and Berlin based innovation studio Cinemathon launched the Propellor FilmTech Hub, a one-of-a-kind innovation platform for the development of new business models for production, distribution and experience of films.
During a presentation at the NEXT Conference Room in Cannes on Sunday May 21, the four co-founders of the Propellor FilmTech Hub looked back at a first successful season of events during the pilot phase 2017. They shared their findings at the touchpoint between film, new technologies and new forms of social interaction and presented some of the promising business ideas developed within this framework.
The innovation platform has been selected to receive Creative Europe MEDIA support to roll out the Propellor FilmTech Hub 2018. This will include a series of international events in Berlin, Rotterdam and Copenhagen, as well as the launch of Propellor | Incubator, a business incubator for the film industry in the summer of 2018. The aim of the Propellor FilmTech Hub is to become the main marketplace for business innovation in the film industry.
