(See full list below) The unique way in which the International Film Festival Rotterdam actively supports filmmakers again proves effective. With grants of its Hubert Bals Fund or by presentation at CineMart, the IFFR contributes to the development, financing and presentation of new works by talented independent filmmakers. The upcoming IFFR edition will see premieres of the latest Rotterdam-backed films, currently in production. An international role model for other funding bodies, the Hubert Bals Fund of the International Film Festival Rotterdam continues to play a crucial role in supporting film-makers and film industries in developing or southern countries. The fund’s grants (for script development, digital production, post production or distribution in the country of origin) act as seal of approval, making it easier to attract additional co-producers and financiers. Rotterdam’s CineMart remains the largest co-production market where a selection of independent film-makers and producers launch their ideas and projects to the international film industry. CineMart was the first of its kind and has since its inception served as example for other co-production markets worldwide, including Pusan, Mannheim, Berlin, Rome and more recently the Durban FilmMart. The IFFR actively supports independent filmmaking from around the globe. The festival is a recognized international platform in Europe for launching new films and talent from Asia, Africa, Middle and Eastern Europe and Latin America. IFFR promotes training and talent development within its Rotterdam Lab for young film producers and the IFFR Trainee Project for Young Film Critics. The dates of the 41st International Film Festival Rotterdam are January 25 - February 5, 2012. The 29th CineMart takes place January 29-February 1, 2012.
