PRESS RELEASE May 10, 2010 The Direction and Board of the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) have appointed Janneke Staarink as business director as per July 13, 2010. Staarink (35), former general director of Oerol, the location-specific theatre festival in the Dutch island Terschelling, succeeds Patrick van Mil, who recently started as business director of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Next to general and artistic director Rutger Wolfson, Janneke Staarink will be charged with the day-to-day management of the IFFR. The business director will be responsible for, among others, the operational management and internal organization, the financial policy, marketing and acquisition of subsidies, private and corporate sponsorship. Rutger Wolfson states about the appointment of Janneke Staarink: “I am very glad to strengthen our team with Janneke Staarink. She is exceptionally talented and brings considerable expertise in festival and event management. I expect her to make an important contribution to further enhance the position of the IFFR as a unique and creative organization, as one of the most influential international festivals for independent cinema and as one of the largest public events within The Netherlands.” Janneke Staarink comments on her appointment as IFFR business director: “I consider it a great challenge to dedicate myself as business director to a festival of world renown. This is an opportunity I will not miss.” After finishing her studies Facility Management at the Hanze University Groningen and Cultural Management at the Artesis Hogeschool Antwerp, Janneke Staarink works since 1998 for IdtV in Diemen, subsequently as assistant producer ID Culture, producer IdtV Arts & Events and production manager IdtV Events & Promotions. From 2003 till 2006 she is executive producer of IdtV Events & Promotions responsible for, among others, the financial management of all productions, the acquisition of external funding from private funds and sponsors, the human resource management and the realization of productions within the clients’ objectives. During her appointment as executive producer, these are productions initiated by IdtV, commercial projects and public and television events such as the ‘Uitmarkt’ in Amsterdam, the May 5 Liberation Day open air concert in Amsterdam and the celebration of Queen Beatrix’ 25th jubilee in The Hague. Since 2006, Staarink works for theatre festival Oerol: the first one and a half years as business director and, from 2007, as general director. During her directorship of Oerol Staarink realizes, among others, an organizational restructuring, new box office and ticketing systems, the acceptance of Oerol within the national system of government subsidies (‘Cultuurnota 2009-2012’), the start of a collaboration with the ‘Noordelijk Film Festival’ and the acquisition of new sponsors and media partners. The past months she worked for Xsaga in Amsterdam. Janneke Staarink was born in 1974 and lives in Haarlem.
