Six Hubert Bals Fund and CineMart titles at Cannes 2006

Six films linked to the Hubert Bals Fund and CineMart of the International Film Festival Rotterdam have made it into Cannes festival sections. From the Official Competition, SUMMER PALACE by Chinese director Lou Ye was presented at CineMart, and IKLIMER (CLIMATES) by Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan received support from the Hubert Bals Fund. Next May 10, the Hubert Bals Fund will announce the results of its Spring Selection Round.

Four more film-makers presenting their new work in Cannes have been supported in the early stages of the realisation of their films. Three films selected for Un Certain Regard were presented as projects at CineMart: HAMACA PARAGUAYA by Paz Encina, SUBURBAN MAYHEM by Paul Goldman and TAXIDERMIA by György Pálfi. The 2006 Directors’ Fortnight includes DAY NIGHT DAY NIGHT by Julia Loktev, presented at CineMart.

Four film projects already linked to either or both the Hubert Bals Fund and the CineMart have been chosen to take part in the 2006 Atelier organised by the Cinéfondation: SCAR by Teboho Mahlatsi (South Africa); THE SKY, THE EARTH AND THE RAIN by José Luis Torres Leiva (Chile); BLACK IRON DAYS by Wang Bing (China) and DAU by Ilya Khrzhanovsky (Russia).

The 36th International Film Festival Rotterdam takes places January 24 – February 4, 2007; the 24th CineMart takes places January 28 – February 1, 2007.
